internal medicine

During a seminar held today at the University of Catania, Prof. Polosa presented his latest effort: a new compendium of internal medicine aimed at students and professionals in the field.

We designed this text with students in mind. We brought together an incredible team of experts, covering virtually all areas of internal medicine,” said Prof. Riccardo Polosa as he introduced the official presentation of the new internal medicine textbook, published by Chirone Moderno Editore.

In a seminar held today before a packed audience of students and professionals, Prof. Riccardo Polosa explained the genesis and drafting process of this new reference text for students, experts and scientists.

This work underscores the deep expertise of the Catania-based scientist in a discipline often composed of fragmented knowledge, lacking a structured and comprehensive textual reference that is easy to consult.

This point was echoed by Dr. Sergio Rassu, the project manager, who spoke during the event:

This volume serves as a cornerstone for approaching internal medicine, which for many students often relies on fragmented notes. This manual provides a unified vision of internal medicine and addresses the need to establish solid foundations for training in this specific field.”

The text is a compendium updated until just a few months before printing, incorporating the latest innovations in the field as part of a broader, innovative program.

Some members of CoEHAR, experts in Tobacco Harm Reduction, attended the event, including Prof. Davide Campagna, professor of Internal Medicine; Prof. Massimo Caruso, expert involved in the Replica project; and Prof. Lia Emma from the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Catania. A special moment of emotion came with the anticipated speech by Prof. Bartoli, one of the foremost founders of Italian internal medicine.

Prof. Bartoli, author of the first edition of the text, joined the event remotely. As the scientific director of the project, he coordinated the efforts of the manual’s 29 authors—professors and collaborators from some of Italy’s most prestigious universities.

The inclusion of experts across all areas of internal medicine allowed the text to address often overlooked topics, such as harm reduction strategies. As Prof. Polosa explained:

The beauty of this text is that we are also covering neglected areas like smoking cessation and tobacco harm reduction. We cited our work at CoEHAR, emphasizing the importance of harm reduction strategies in reducing the morbidity and mortality associated with smoking-related diseases.
