HOW TO CHANGE HEALTH POLICY STRATEGIES? SMOPHED STUDY: INVESTIGATION ON VAPERS AND SMOKERS ACCESSING EMERGENCY HOSPITAL SERVICES.
But how much would harm reduction and the reduction of smoking-related diseases affect international health policy strategies? Would there be fewer hospital admissions without conventional cigarette smoke? The answer will be provided by questionnaires administered to over 3000 hospitalized patients whose smoking habits and potential use of non-combustion products will be analyzed to assess the causes of hospital admission and the subsequent outcomes of the diseases identified.

New report from The Royal College of Physician: positive impact of E-Cigarettes
The Royal College of Physicians has assessed the available evidence on the use of e-cigarettes, from health effects to the issue of youth vaping, publishing a report with over 50 recommendations. It concluded that e-cigarettes represent a valuable aid in smoking cessation, but that much more can and should be done to reduce their appeal, availability and affordability to people who do not smoke, including children and young people, and reduce environmental harms.

According to the studies, “CoEHAR research in patients with COPD patients, asthma, high blood pressure, schizophrenia show clear benefits with objective evidence for harm reversal after switching from smoking.. and also showed that lung function and respiratory symptoms and muco-ciliary clearance improve after switching from smoking to vaping”.
MAGNIFICAT: published the innovative protocol on dual users and harm reduction potential
The MAGNIFICAT study, strongly advocated by Prof. Riccardo Polosa, will evaluate the effects of the combined use of conventional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes on human health, quantifying this impact by collecting samples, researching and describing the core of different levels of dual use on exposure to toxic substances and harm reduction, and using specific biomarkers, clinical endpoints, and behavioral correlations
HOW TO REDUCE THE HARM CAUSED BY CIGARETTE SMOKE ON ORAL HEALTH AND TEETH?
The data from these works as a whole can be used to assess the impact in terms of risk/benefit ratio of the regular use of combustion-free products, assisting the efforts of public health authorities in encouraging smokers to quit, especially those who perceive their smoke-damaged smile as a barrier to personal health or work and social relationships.
Groundbreaking Global Initiative to Investigate Oral Health Impacts of Combustion-Free Nicotine Delivery Alternatives: the SMILE Study
The study has been designed with the help of experts from Germany, UK, Italy, Poland, Moldova, and Indonesia. SMILE study is being conducted in four dental clinics across four different countries (Italy, Poland, Moldova, and Indonesia). Volunteer enrollment was completed in August 2023 and results will be expected to be available in 2025.
